About Jane...
I've been writing most
of my professional life.
For a long time I was
involved in writing training materials for
managerial and sales staff in the finance
industry. Sounds dull? It wasn't! It was a challenge
to turn dry, dusty procedures into vibrant, exciting
and effective pieces of work that people would want
to pick up, learn from and have fun with. I wrote
paper-based materials and video scripts. It taught
me a lot about working to deadlines, and within very
tight parameters. Believe me, it applies to writing
fiction!
When a company
redundancy program tempted me with its evil wares, I
took the money and ran off to my first true
love—theatre. I worked as a freelance deputy stage
manager for a number of years; a specific role that
involves communication between director and the
creative teams; the set, lighting and costume
designers, as well as technical staff. I also worked
with a costumier, and did some theatre wardrobe
work, too. That's when I was introduced to opera, a
love that has stayed with me.
But my tastes in most
things are pretty eclectic! I love plays, movies and
books, from Pacino to Puccini, Goodfellas to
Greenday, Depp to Dostoevsky. And all points
in between!
I'm also a great lover
of Italy, and all things Italian. I wish I could
spend more time there—once a year isn't enough. You
can find links to some of my favourite Italian
things on the links page.
A lot of my story characters end up there!
I'm married to
Jonathan, and we have two children,
Alexander and Rosie. I'm also a qualified Holistic
Therapist, licensed to practice body massage,
aromatherapy, reflexology and Indian head massage.
And I'm a writer.
